The 2015 IndyCar Rookie of the Year, Gabby Chaves, and up-and-coming South African Julian van der Watt are ready to get back into the Unitronic No.17 Audi RS 3 LMS and bounce back from the adversity they faced at Virginia International Raceway two weeks ago.
During the formation lap, a fuel pump issue forced Van der Watt to return to the paddock, destroying any hope of a podium result. The JDC-Miller MotorSports team got the car back up and running with an hour and 25-minutes left of the race, which allowed Chaves and Van der Watt to get some more valuable running time in the RS 3 LMS to prepare for the upcoming event in Monterey, California.
"I am very much looking forward to driving the Unitronic No.17 JDC-Miller MotorSports Audi RS 3 LMS at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this coming weekend. Laguna had been a racetrack I had always wanted to drive — it's my favorite track to drive in the simulators. We want to maximize the result this weekend, as we know the car has the pace to be fighting for the win.” said the Cape Town, South Africa native. Some last-minute additional funding from team partners Out There Brands and Unitronic has allowed open-wheel phenomenon Chaves to have a second attempt at an IMSA series podium after initially being signed on for VIR only. “ I’m very excited to come back with the team for WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. I can’t express enough gratitude to the Out There Brands and Unitronic team to have made a big effort to get me back in the car again and I hope we can do what I feel we showed potential for in VIR which is go for the win.”
The official on-track action begins on Friday, September 13th at 9:35AM PST with Practice One. The WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 120 will be streaming live on IMSA.com and the IMSA App on Saturday, September 15th at 3:05PM!
