UniCONNECT+ for DQ381/AL552/AL952
Thanks for choosing Unitronic. Please follow the instructional guide below to help assist with DQ381.2 DSG TCU Uunlock procedures via UniCONNECT+. AL552 / AL952 ZF8 transmission support coming soon.
This tutorial shows the process with dq381 - process is very similar for al552/al952.
This tutorial will guide you through the process of using the Unitronic TCU Unlock Tool harness to unlock your BL401 TCU. The same general procedure applies to both DQ381 and ALx52. Once the TCU is unlocked, you can subsequently flash and reflash the TCU directly through the OBD2 port. It may be necessary to perform a TCU Unlock again in the future if the customers' TCU is flashed with an update by the manufacturer.
Open the vehicle hood. You will eventually need to remove your intake airbox, later in this process. It would be a good idea to remove the intake airbox now in order to gain access to the TCU connector to save yourself time later on.
Connect a battery charger.
Connect your UniCONNECT+ cable to the OBD2 port of your vehicle.

Switch Ignition ON (Key ON, Engine OFF) by pressing the start stop button WITHOUT your foot on the brake pedal.

Open UniCONNECT+. Allow UniCONNECT+ to auto-detect your vehicle, then select Performance Transmission Flash.

UniCONNECT+ will detect your TCU ID, TCU Revision Number, and Bootloader (BL) Version and other important information. If you have a BL401 version, UniCONNECT+ will prompt you to make a selection.

UniCONNECT+ will prompt you to proceed with connecting the Unitronic TCU Unlock Tool directly to the TCU. At this time, you may turn the ignition OFF in your vehicle and unplug UniCONNECT+ only from the OBD2 port (leaving it connected to the USB on your laptop).
After the removal of your airbox, you will be able to see the TCU connector. To remove the factory TCU connector, rotate the ear of the connector counterclockwise to unlock and release the connector from the TCU.

Connect the Unitronic TCU Unlock Tool's DQ381 connector to the TCU connector of your vehicle. Before plugging it in, make sure the TCU connector on the Unitronic TCU Unlock Tool harness is in the open position. Once installed to your TCU, make sure to rotate the TCU connector clockwise to secure it in place. Then, connect the TCU Unlock Tool harness to the 12v Power Supply and plug your UniCONNECT+ cable to the OBD2 connector on the harness. Finally, switch the red switch to ON (I).

Return back to your laptop, and proceed within UniCONNECT+ by clicking DONE, now that you have the Unitronic TCU Unlock Tool connected to your TCU.

Switch the red power switch to the OFF (0) position, then click READY.

Switch the red power switch to the ON (I) position, then click READY.

UniCONNECT+ will proceed with processing the TCU Unlock. This process takes approximately 4 minutes. You will see activity on the screen while it reads, processes, and programs the TCU.
DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS FOR ANY REASON.

Once the TCU Unlock has been successfully installed, UniCONNECT+ will prompt you to reconnect the UniCONNECT+ cable back to the OBD2 port inside of your vehicle. At this point, first switch the Unitronic TCU Unlock Tool power switch to the OFF (0) position. Then, unplug the UniCONNECT+ cable from the OBD2 connector of the bench harness (leaving it connected to the USB on your laptop). Next, rotate the TCU connector of the bench harness counterclockwise to release it from the TCU, and reconnect the factory TCU connector. Reinstall your intake airbox, and return back inside the vehicle. Reconnect your UniCONNECT+ cable to the OBD2 port and switch the Ignition ON (Key ON, Engine OFF) by pressing the start stop button WITHOUT your foot on the brake pedal.

Once this is complete, click DONE within UniCONNECT+.

UniCONNECT+ will re-establish connection with your TCU and prompt you to select TCU Performance Software for your vehicle.
Follow the on-screen instructions within UniCONNECT+ to flash the TCU with the TCU Performance Software tune selected. Once complete, UniCONNECT+ will indicate that the TCU has been programmed successfully.

Congratulations! You have successfully completed the TCU Unlock and have installed your Unitronic TCU Performance Software.
