Unitronic®'s Cold Air Intake System for the 1.4 TSI® EA211 engine is a direct bolt-on performance upgrade that is engineered to optimize airflow to the turbo, providing your engine a boost in performance, an increase in throttle response, while also providing a more aggressive sound from turbocharger, with a seamless integration into the engine bay to give that clean OEM+ look.
Utilizing industry-leading technology, Unitronic began with 3D scanning the 1.4TSI engine bays and OEM components with it’s in-house 3D scanner. Unitronic’s Hardware Engineers then interact with the 3D models to identify fitment constraints, mounting locations, other component locations, etc. to ensure the final product fits perfectly within the “envelope”.
Once initial designs are finalized, the next step is the rapid prototyping phase, utilizing its in-house Stratasys 3D printer. Within hours, Unitronic Engineers are able to have a complete working 3D printed rapid prototype, allowing for test fitments to be performed on the vehicle, functional testing to be completed, and flow data extracted to further validate the designs.
Using its in-house Superflow SF-1020 Flow Bench, Unitronic Hardware Engineers further validated designs to ensure that the Unitronic Intake System effectively optimizes airflow in a variety of conditions. The OEM intake system yielded a peak flow rate of 317 CFM at 28” of H2O, while the Unitronic Cold Air Intake achieved 555 CFM, for a gain of 75% over the OEM system.
Using its in-house MAHA LPS3000 Chassis Dyno, Unitronic performed back to back dyno tests using its 2017 Volkswagen Jetta 1.4TSI CZTA. This vehicle was equipped only with Unitronic’s Stage 1+ Performance Software; was otherwise completely stock. Unitronic’s Cold Air Intake System for the 1.4TSI EA211 produced a gain of 7 HP / 13 LBFT compared to the stock unit.
Airflow enters the Intake System through Unitronic’s proprietary 3” high-flow air filter, featuring a radius-faced filter base. This radius-faced filter base acts as a velocity stack to ram air into the larger 2.75” (70mm) diameter lightweight Aluminum intake tube and matching multi-ply reinforced silicone couplers. The lightweight Aluminum intake tube is coated in a wrinkle black powder coated finish and includes a PCV port, to ensure for complete and perfect fitment.
Unitronic’s Intake System features a one-piece heat shield design, constructed of lightweight Aluminum, and finished with a durable wrinkle black powder coat. Unitronic’s heat shield keeps out unwanted heat and allows for cool airflow from the front of the vehicle to be channeled directly onto the air filter.
During everyday driving, it’s normal for slight movement to come from the engine, as the engine produces torque and thus, exhibits a bit of movement on the engine mounts. It’s important to account for such flex or movement on components that are mounted to both the [rigid] chassis and [dynamic] engine. Unitronic’s Intake System features a multi-ply, reinforced silicone coupler with integrated bellows to ensure the proper flex is permitted and does not cause undue stress on the intake system components over time.
