After nine rounds, 22 hours of racing and several hundred laps completed, it all comes down to a thrilling finale for the Unitronic JDC-Miller MotorSports team. Sitting only 20 points behind the championship leaders, the team is preparing for a winner-takes-all showdown at the world-renowned Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, in Braselton, GA this week.
Without any major pre-season testing completed, the 2023 campaign didn't get off to the greatest start, with new Gen2 car teething issues plaguing the team at Daytona and Sebring, two of the toughest events on the schedule. However, after countless hours of hard work and dedication the Minnesota based team along with Chief Engineer; Cole Scrogham, were able to get a handle on the new Audi platform and start optimizing it, ultimately leading to a fourth place finish at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, which kick-started one of the most consistent series of races in team history.
With the exception of an unpredictable fueling issue that caused the team to finish 6th at Lime Rock Park in July, the driving pairing of Mikey Taylor, Chris Miller put together an impressive run of five podium finishes, including three victories — coming at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, Virginia International Raceway, and most recently at the world capital of racing, Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The impressive season is highlighted by the fact that the single car effort by Unitronic JDC-Miller MotorSports has been able to take on the goliath three car, factory backed, Hyundai team, which has dominated much of the last three years of IMSA TCR competition. Supported by the resources of Unitronic and JDC-Miller MotorSports, the #17 entry has continuously been at the front of the field, going head-to-head against the factory supported Hyundai entries.
Heading into the tenth and final round of the 2023 IMSA Pilot Challenge Season, the #17 Audi trails the #33 Hyundai by a mere 20 championship points. Having already exchanged blows throughout the majority of the year, there is no doubt Friday's 2-hour Fox Factory 120 will be hotly contested by both teams.
